    Masam Project of KSrelief dismantles 700 mines in Yemen

    King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Project (Masam) dismantled 320 anti-tank mines and 380 unexploded ordnance planted by the Houthi militia during the second week of July 2022. As of now, 350,421 mines have been dismantled as part of the project. According to a local NGO, over 900 civilians have been killed by mines planted by Iranian-backed Houthis in southwestern Yemen since 2015.

    Masam Project of KSrelief dismantles 700 mines in YemenYemeni Mine Observatory reported that 942 civilians have died from mines planted by Houthi militias in Taiz province over the past six years, including 223 children and 217 women. There were also 2,321 civilians injured by the mines, including 406 children and 365 women, according to the statement. Mine clearance efforts are being intensified in regions liberated by government forces.

    More than 8,000 mine victims are estimated to have been killed in Yemen by human rights groups. Most of the victims are women and children. Almost a million mines have been planted in areas controlled by the Houthis, according to the Yemeni government. Houthi rebels aligned with Iran have been battling for control of much of Yemen since 2014, when they captured the capital, Sanaa, from the Yemeni government.
